Directed by Stevan Riley, Fire in Babylon is about a West Indies cricket team that played in the 1970s and 1980s. This British documentary is a must see for all cricket fans. In the film, the West Indies team was a real record breaking, feared team by all. The film features many great cricketers and cricket sports commentators. This movie is so good and was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Documentary. In 2011, it ended up tying for first place for the UNESCO Award at the Jamaica Reggae Film Festival.
Hit for Six (2007)
Hit for Six is a cricket film that is centered around a West Indies cricket player who was once accused of match fixing. The film got its name since a hit for six in cricket refers to a batsman hitting a six off the bowling. Wanting to earn the respect of his father, who was a former cricketer, himself, he fights to compete in the international tournament. On his journey to playing in the tournament, he learns about love and respect. The film features Wes Hall and Desmond Haynes, who were also West Indies players.
The Lady Vanishes (1938)
This British mystery film is not exactly cricket oriented, however, it definitely mentions the game a lot. In the film from Director Alfed Hitchcock, there are two characters who are simply nutty over wanting to know the score of a cricket Test Match. The pair were always talking about cricket and it was all that mattered to them, so they were determined to get back to England to see the last days of the Test Match.
It’s Not Cricket (1949)
This classic comedy film is a must watch for cricket enthusiasts. The movie is centered around two main characters who are intelligence officers in the British army who were suspended. After being suspended, they start a detective agency and hires a secretary. One day, the secretary’s fiancé invites them all to a weekend cricket match. They are unaware that the cricket ball they purchased in London is holding a valuable stolen diamond. The whole thing was set up and the reason they were let go from the army. It’s a comedy that keeps you on the edge of your seat for sure.
